Unscripted in Durham!

by Mary Rae Hunter

I was delighted to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Unscripted Hotel in Durham http://www.unscriptedhotels.com/durham/!  The day was absolutely beautiful, perfect for the festivities downtown. I can’t tell you how exhilarating it was to be there to enjoy the energy that this hotel will bring to the center core of Durham.  The old Jack Tar Motor Lodge was purchased by Jane and Greg Hills, developers with Austin Lawrence Partners, as a place for parking for the new One City Center Project. From the encouragement of many of the loyal fans of this dilapidated mid century hotel, the Hills took on the challenge to revive both the hotel and the parking lot to meet the requests of the locals. The Unscripted Hotel will now provide a new swanky destination, as well as meet the additional parking required for One City Center.

The Hills hired skilled graffiti artists, to fly to Durham, to turn the parking lot into a fabulous display of graffiti art. This is definitely the coolest parking lot in Durham.

From my experiences at the hotel, this is a great place to hang by the pool and relax with friends.  However, if you would prefer to be inside, the downstairs restaurant and bar are exceptional. If you have not had the opportunity to visit this hotel, you must put it in your “to do” list.
