Susan is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where she majored in Economics. She received her MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management with concentrations in decision sciences, marketing, and international business. While living in Chicago, she met her husband, Larry. There they started their family and have three sons, Ben, Alex, and Charles. Although she grew up in Greensboro, she embraced the urban lifestyle during her years in the midwest. They moved to Chapel Hill in 2001, and then to Durham in 2003, to raise their sons in the Bull City's intellectually, artistically, and culturally rich atmosphere. She immediately felt at home in authentically southern and gracious Durham, and upon moving here learned that her great-grandfather was the Mayor of Durham exactly 100 years ago!

What did you do before real estate? I worked in the investment banking and environmental consulting industry in Chicago.  Then I stayed home with our sons for eleven years before working part-time at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment.

What do you do outside of work? Our whole family is nuts about tennis! I am either playing or watching. When I am not running around between matches or clinics, I love to garden, walk in Duke Forest with our two Labs, Winnie and Dixie, and make jewelry and crocheted evening bags.

What organizations get your time and money? I am on the Board of Directors of Partners For Youth, a year-round mentoring and summer job program for middle and high school students (ages 14-19 years) based in Southwest Central Durham.  I also support Genesis Home, Threshold, Student U, SEEDS, and I and I am PTSA president at our sons' high school.

How would you spend $100 in Durham? I would buy notecards at Parker and Otis and buy an extra ticket to Durham Performing Arts Center for someone for one of the musicals this season.

Where was your most recent restaurant visit? Scratch Bakery

What book are you currently reading? Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.
